# Jamil Hammoudeh > Jamil Hammoudeh is an aerospace engineering student at Cal Poly Pomona building ARCS, an open-source simulator for testing AI spacecraft controllers safely. ## Facts - Name: Jamil Hammoudeh - Study: B.S. Aerospace Engineering, Astronautics emphasis, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona). Expected graduation May 2028. - Based in: Irvine, California - Languages: English, Arabic - Interests: spacecraft guidance and autonomy, safe AI for control, high-speed flight - Experience: SOAR LP, Engineering Project Management & Aircraft Systems Intern, June 2022 to present (Long Beach, CA and Shannon, Ireland) - Contact: j.hammoudeh@outlook.com ## Research - [ARCS: Autonomous Rendezvous and Control Suite](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/research/arcs): In progress. ARCS is an open-source, headless simulator for testing AI controllers, including large language model (LLM) agents, and classical controllers on spacecraft rendezvous with keep-out safety constraints. It models relative motion with the Clohessy-Wiltshire equations, validated against the closed-form solution to sub-millimeter accuracy over one orbit, and simulates one hour of flight in under 0.1 s. A provider-neutral LLM agent interface logs every prompt, response, parse failure, and latency, and a safety-filter wrapper counts its interventions. In the first result, a PD baseline violates the keep-out zone in 100% of 30 obstructed approaches, which motivates safety-filtered autonomy. - [Benchmarking LLM agents and classical controllers for safe spacecraft rendezvous](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/research/llm-rendezvous-benchmark): In progress. A planned benchmark, built on the ARCS simulator, that compares large language model (LLM) agents, classical controllers, and safety-filtered versions of them on spacecraft rendezvous with keep-out safety constraints. - [Safety-shielded AI for approaching unknown asteroids](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/research/safe-asteroid-approach): In progress. A planned paper on safety-shielded AI control for spacecraft approaching unknown asteroids. It is the second paper planned as part of the ARCS research. ## Projects - [Boom Prize Supersonic RC Jet](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/projects/boom-prize-supersonic-jet): Leading the design of a registered Boom Prize entry: a sub-25 kg turbojet RC aircraft built to exceed Mach 1. (Sep 2026 to present) - [Blended Wing Body Prototype](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/projects/blended-wing-body): Ribs, spars, composite molds, and CNC fixtures for a 1.2 m composite prototype targeting 10 to 15% higher lift-to-drag. (Sep 2025 to present) - [GoAERO Prize VTOL Prototype](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/projects/goaero-vtol): Composite layups, CNC-machined molds, and airframe panels for an emergency-response VTOL prototype. (Sep 2023 to May 2024) - [Tilawa](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/projects/tilawa): A Quran recitation app that uses machine learning on recited audio to detect tajweed errors and give corrective feedback. ## Pages - [Home](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/): who I am and what I am working on now - [Research](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/research): papers and software, with status and BibTeX - [Projects](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/projects): aircraft, prototypes, and software - [Writing](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/writing): notes and the Boom Prize build log - [CV](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/cv): education, research, experience, projects, and skills ## Profiles - [GitHub](https://github.com/jamilhammoudeh) - [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamilhammoudeh/) - [Resume (PDF)](https://jamilhammoudeh.com/Jamil_Hammoudeh_Resume.pdf)
